Does It Job Well
I bought this Sony reader because it seems a little better constructed than all the no-name brands out there. This one reads a few more types of memory cards than some of the others. I wanted one that did CF cards.. Many do not anymore. I use the reader on a iMac and it seems to read / write fast. I have no regrets about this purchase. It looks good enough where I just leave it hooked up all the time too.
Suuuuuucks on a Mac
Costs $10 less at CompUSA right now. But … no matter because this reader … is …
NOT
… recognized on a Macbook Pro 2.2 running Tiger 10.4.10. Also could not get it to work on Parallels 3 using Windows XP on the same computer. At least under parallels the LED flashes, but the virtual drives for each slot only loaded after unplugging the USB cable! To get it to work you will need to *trick* it into working.
Stay away Maczealots. Sony is too smart to be compatible. Also, bet it won’t mount under Ubuntu. Can’t test until back from vacation.
High build quality, slightly higher price
This Sony reader feels nice compared to non-brand name memory card readers because of its aluminum construction. For Sony camera users, it snugly reads Memory Stick Duos and MS Pro Duos without using an adapter. That is one big plus. I would have given the product 5 stars except the price is higher than other products who have the same read features.
Very good, much fater.
I like very much this product, is very fast in tranfer rate.
Besides is small and portable.
Compact reader
After having a bunch of cheapo/freebie readers die over the years, I decided to go for the ‘name brand’ Sony. The other main reason I bought it over the no-name others is that it supports Memory Stick Pro Duo without an adapter. I don’t know if others really would support it too but they didn’t claim to and this one really does. It feel solid and is a nice compact size. No complaints other than the fact that it’s about 2x the price of its competitors.
