Product Description

The DVP-NC85H five-disc DVD player offers 720p/1080i upscaling through an HDMI connection (High Definition Multi Media Interface). HDMI allows the transfer of uncompressed digital audio and video signals to other HDMI equipped components, providing an uncompromised picture. It also features Precision Cinema Progressive technology, which delivers accurate and vivid images to the television. Unlike other DVD players that detect image changes at the Scan line level-Sony’s Precision Cinema Progressive (PCP) system detects them at the Pixel level. This results in images closer to the original source data, because separate, optimized algorithms are used to handle the differing Pixel behavior. Precision Drive III mechanism is also included, which helps maximize the performance of DVD collections by reading data even on some physically “warped” discs. Other benefits include a 12bit/108MHz video DAC (digital to analog converter), and 24 bit/192KHz audio, providing high-quality video and audio processing for vivid images and crystal clear sound.

Works perfect as I expected
This player was a replacement for my 1992 Sony that was quite similar to this one. The 1992 worked well for years and had slowly passed away. The new one works perfectly as I expected. The controls are on a bevel slanted towards the top though and not as easy to see and use as my old Sony. But still a very very good product.

Perfect replacement
Ordered this DVD/CD player when the old Sony gave up the ghost. Set up is very simple and the HDMI and progressive scan features make a world of difference on my HDTV. Be sure to order an HDMI cable with the player, it doesn’t come with one. This model is smaller and lighter than the old one, and keeps the black Sony theme going in the entertainment center (-: Good value, can’t go wrong here.

Purchase a sledgehammer at the same time - you’ll need it
Purchased this 10/10/06 and it refuses to play any disc as of 10/9/07. The player has been well maintained and cleaned. Played well long enough to go past the warranty (funny, that). I’d rather pay more and have some decent longevity than buy one every year. I’ll never buy Sony for dvd again.

Nice Unit
Nice unit. Works great out of the box. The DVD upconvert feature works GREAT on my HDTV — no options, it simply scales it to fill the screen.

The Amazon listing is a bit confusing, since the customer-supplied image shows an HDMI cable. The unit does NOT include a cable, so be sure to purchase one.

Nice DVD player.
I have had this for about 8 mo now.. still working great. I wore out the first sony changer I had so this is the second one. This first one worked so good for so long I bought another sony. I hope this one gives me as good a service as the first one. Its very similar so I’m sure it will.
