The new ultra-small memory card is designed to meet the growing storage needs of highly compact, multifunctional mobile phones.

An ‘M2′ adaptor in the size of a standard Memory Stick will allow users to exchange data to Memory Stick PRO compatible products.

The M2 media is approximately one-quarter the volume of Memory Stick PRO Duo media, yet only about 1.2mm thick.

M2 media is designed as an externally removable media with a controlled eject function to prevent users losing the media. Following the trend of mobile phones which operate at 1.8 volts, the M2 has been designed as dual-voltage media. In addition to 1.8 volt support, the media offers 3.3 volt operation which is required for existing Memory Stick PRO compatible products.

Great card for the phone, but the larger adapter is useless
The micro M2 card is great for the W580i but the larger adapter is pretty much useless, since most computers can’t read M2, maybe Sony type can but I use a compaq, dell, and HP and they all do not read that type of card, I would have to get a USB adapter designed specifically for this type. A memory stick pro adapter for the Micro M2 would be better preferred since it is a more common type of card that most including my computers can read.

ITS GREAT, HUGE CAPACITY, WORK GREAT IN PHONE SONY ERICSSON P1I, ALSO HAVE A GOOD READ/WRITE SPEED I THINK A LITTLE FASTER THAT THE 4GB PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED IN THE SAME PHONE.

I am using this poduct with my sony ericsson p1i phone eventhough the specifications say the memory is extendable up to 4 GB. It works great.

Now I have a phone with a touch screen, wifi, 8 GB an 160 MB of phone memory, quickoffice, 3.2 MP camera, what do I need an iPhone for?

Works great with 580i
I just bought this to go with my Sony Ericcson 580i. I put a couple gigs of mp3s on without a hitch.

One thing I’d like to point out: I think that any speed issues that people are seeing are more a function of the device, not the card. I bought a cheap card reader/pen drive adapter to go with it, and I was able to move files over quite a bit faster than when I used the USB cable that came with my phone (though it still probably wasn’t as fast as it could have been). Plus, I can leave my extra 1GB card in the reader and just use it as a pen drive. If you’re going to be doing a lot of transfers to the card, I can’t recommend one of those enough. The BlueProton one is cheap and functional, but there are some others out there, too.

Bought product not knowing if it was compatible with the new Sony Ericcson P1i cell phone.

The product was advertised about 30% less than retail but still pricey! )

The cell phone did recognize the card after it was formatted so the compatibility issue wasn’t a real concern.

Besides the price, the other caveats are that the file transfer is S..L..O..W, the memory card format is Sony proprietory format and 8GB is the biggest size available since it was released sometime in late Fall, 2007!

It took about 20 minutes to transfer ~1GB of mp3 files via USB from PC to memory card in phone. S.L.O.W!!

For the price, the transfer rate Should have been faster, hence the lower score!

At least it has the same capacity as the 8GB iPod Nano. Now I can listen to tunes on the cell phone without the bulk of carrying an iPod!
