Product Description

Sony offers this all-in-one MD & CD System for superlative sound in a sleek, streamlined package. This Micro-Sized stereo system is designed to fit virtually anywhere. Apart from delivering high-quality HiFi stereo sound, it incorporates a Sony Digital MiniDisc recorder and player for making you own high-grade digital recordings. It features natural wood-style speaker cabinets with removable acoustically transparent, color-coordinated cloth grilles.Part of the magic of the CMT-MD1 is CD/MD Synchro Record. This convenience enables you to copy a CD program onto MD, and enjoy automatic synchronization of both Player and Recorder. It makes compiling your own discs easier than you ever thought possible. When you record a MiniDisc, you can name the disc and each individual track! Your names will appear not only in the front panel of your own system, but also in the panels of other compatible MD players! The Custom File feature helps you remember which discs you have loaded. Disc Memo lets you assign an alphanumeric name for your discs. Names are displayed on the front panel. Dynamic Bass Feedback (DBFB) compensates for the human ear’s relative insensitivity to bass at low listening levels and establishes a more natural tonal balance. 1-Bit Digital-To-Analog converter minimizes zero-cross distortion, considered by researchers to be the most audible distortion in CD players. The result is remarkably smooth, open sound - even during delicate quiet passages. 8X Digital Filter combines excellent phase linearity with superb suppression of aliasing noise. It yields better stereo imaging. Comprehensive wireless remote control over the entire system is also included.

Customer reviews

Great compact package for CD and MD users 4
Sony combined a bookshelf CD player with an MiniDisc player/recorder in the stylish CMT-MD1. Despite its small size, it has surprisingly good sound quality even with the standard speakers. It comes with the standard features of a bookshelf player: built-in tuner, an equalizer which lets you select different settings only from its preset settings. The fact that you can’t adjust the equalizer manually is a little bit disappointing, as is the lack of an optical output.

Due to its size, and perhaps for stylistic reasons, many of its functions are accessible only from the remote. And for stylistic purposes, the unit comes shipped with gray and blue covers for the speakers.

Technologically cool, with inconsistent interface 4
This lovely unit includes a mini-disk recorder/player, along with a CD player and AM/FM radio tuner for no-brainer recording of mini-disks. While its compact size make it a desktop model, the sound is impressive — plenty of bass. The ability to store text on mini-disks that is then displayed when played is innovative, but the interface needs work. Now that Sony is opening up the MD standard, perhaps this beautiful piece of hardware won’t become obsolete too soon. I just wish I had not spent $700 for mine.
