UNBELIEVABLE!
I have had XBR TVs since SONY introduced them years ago. It is the flagship of the SONY line. SONY makes the professional cameras used by most major broadcasters. It understands what the signals are that originate at broadcasters. This translates into a clear understanding of what software is needed and what technologies are needed to display them. Other than Phillips, no one else on the planet does. They are all wannabes. I have the 52XBR4 with the SONY DX500 surround sound, wireless rear speaker kit, WII, and SONY S500 Blu-Ray. What a dream to setup; the Bravia interconnection is flawless. Don’t read the other whiner reviews, read the manual. It is clear how to use this TV. The controls are incredible over what you can do with this machine - and easy to use. May cost a little more - it’s priceless what you get for it.
LCD TV
i PURCHASED THE TV FROM AMAZON. The estimated date of receipt was two weeks and I received the TV in one week. It was easy to track with the numbers amason gives you. Very good service and product + price.
Expensive, but best on the market
Like lots of others, we dithered for a couple of years on buying a big-screen HDTV. We spent many hours online and in stores looking at TVs. Because of their lower power consumption, lighter weight, and overall friendlier environmental profile, we leaned toward LCDs over plasmas.
At several locations, my wife and I both were mesmerized by the XBR4. I’d seen it a while ago and thought it had a beautiful picture. Then more recently, looking at TVs side-by-side, the XBR4 was clearly better than anything else we saw. When I pointed out that it was much more expensive than most other models, my wife said, “that one looks like you’re there–the others look like TVs”. We jumped in and bought it.
We haven’t regretted our purchase after a month now. HD signals are fantastic. In a recent football game, I could see the moisture glistening on the helmet of a player on the field. We have a standard DVD player, whose signal displays wonderfully. Standard TV signals are not stunning, but there are no miracles in this business. I also like the PC input–we have a computer hooked up to check on IMDB and other niceties.
Like reviewers have said, the menus are a bit complex, but if you’re a tinkerer they’re not that bad. The blacks are black–I can’t see how any plasma could be much better. If you can afford it (don’t use home equity to buy any TV), you wouldn’t regret owning this TV.
Excellent Quality..
I had a 10 year old 29″ panasonic. This is my long awaited purchase. It feels like a different world. the sharpness is amazing and if you get the HD connection then you don’t need to go to cinema anymore.
I had problems with my first purchase, something happened during delivery and I started seeing some vertical lines on the TV after 3-4 days. Amazon dealt the entire process very smoothly, they replaced my TV within 10 days. I feel this TV is very sensitive, any small jolt will cause severe damage, the damage will not be seen initially but LCD’s are going to leak in the form of lines starting from one point and going all over either horizontally or vertically.
Top Of the Line TV
This TV is the best that I have ever watched. It may not be the biggest screen, but if there is a TV out there with a better picture, I do not know which one it would be. I could not be more pleased then I am. Sony did a great job when they build this. If you are looking for the best, then look no farther, you have found it. Great picture and a great sound even without an a/v receiver hooked up. You cannot beat the price that Amazon has on it. They shipped it with white glove treatment. The shipper brought it into the house, unpacked it and let me check it out. Great job from start to finish. I highly recommend it.
